ALC Webinar Series Presents: Working Virtually in the Times of COVID-19

Hosted by: Tatyana Fertelmeyster, Founder and Principal of Connecting Differences, LLC

Tatyana Fertelmeyster has been working with corporate, academic, non-profit, religious and governmental organizations focusing on building Intercultural Competence and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives since 1998. She has done a lot of work in the area of cultural adjustment with a broad variety of people – refugees, global executives, international students, as well as professionals serving transitional populations.

Tatyana holds a Master Degree in Guidance and Counseling from Northeastern Illinois University of Chicago, USA as well as a Master Degree in Journalism from Moscow State University (Russia). She is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor.

Tatyana worked as a reporter in Moscow (Soviet Union). Her primary focus was on workplace relationships and human-interest subjects. After coming to the United States as a refugee she started her intercultural career as a caseworker in refugee resettlement. Her intercultural work continued as she became a mental health counsellor: she was a foreign-born counsellor for American clients and a Western-educated counsellor for Russian-speaking clients. As an intercultural trainer and coach, she has worked in the United States, a number of countries in Europe, Central Asia, and the Middle East.

Tatyana has been a part of the Summer Institute for Intercultural Communication (Portland, Oregon, USA) since 1999 – first as a fellow and for the last 10 years as a faculty member. She provides various professional development training and coaching services for Intercultural and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion professionals across geographies.

Tatyana is fluent in Russian (native) and English and conducts training and coaching in both languages. With her background in mental health she puts a lot of emphasis on importance of dealing with oneself while dealing with others, on emotional intelligence, and navigating challenging cultural, professional, and personal interactions.

Tatyana focuses on working with individuals and teams whose success depends on their ability to navigate cultural differences and adjust to change. She emphasises skill development and continuity of learning through guided practice as essential for sustainable change.
