The UNConference doesn't have presentations or speakers. Limited to senior staff at language service companies,* it is more casual and more focused. We emphasize breaking into smaller groups so that each person can be an active part of a conversation, not just a passive member of an audience. All attendees are encouraged to become participants, while facilitators will provide a touch of moderation and structure. This participant-driven meeting allows you to have thought-provoking discussions with some of the brightest minds in the industry--about the issues that matter to you most.
*A limited number of registrations are available for industry partners. This is an opportunity to participate in the conversation--not sell products and services.
At our 2012 Annual Conference in New Orleans, several board members were having drinks at the bar and thinking of ways to provide more value to members. In something out of a Seinfeld episode, Craig Buckstein quipped that “we should create a conference without any sessions, you know, just like a show about nothing.” What if we had a conference that had no content? It would be an unconference. No speakers, no sessions, just all of us in a room doing what we do, coming up with solutions to whatever problems are on our minds at the time. It was a true throwback to the founder days.
Less than a year later, in 2013, we held our first UNConference in Palm Beach—with sold-out attendance. It was unique, and no one else was offering anything like it. And with just C-level executives, we were able to say the things we wouldn’t be able to say around vendors, buyers, and linguists. We now have experiences for two different types of learners: those who prefer to maximize learning with a traditional conference, and those who prefer to brainstorm solutions with colleagues in an executives' workshop.
